Our History
Founded March 13, 1958, the SFBACC was one of the earliest outposts of curling in the western United States. Its leadership was instrumental in founding other curling clubs throughout California and the West, loaning both expertise and assets – thousands of dollars of rocks and equipment – to help them establish. It was a charter member of what has expanded to become the Mountain Pacific Curling Association (originally the California/Oregon Association). The club was kept alive locally in the 80s and 90s by a small core of committed curlers, many of whom traveled more than an hour to Sharks Ice in San Jose to curl on Sunday mornings at 6am a few times a year.
After the 2006 Olympics, the club grew rapidly, and partnered with Sharks Ice (now Solar4America Ice) to provide classes and leagues in both San Jose and Fremont. The club incorporated in December, 2007, and became a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in May, 2008.
In early 2010, the club expanded to the Oakland Ice Center, another Sharks Ice facility.
In 2018 SFBACC donated 5 sets of stones, hacks, brooms, and other surplus equipment to the Silicon Valley Curling Club. SVCC formed take over the club's arena ice times in Fremont and San Jose in advance of the opening of SFBACC's dedicated curling facility in Oakland.
