The Dedicated Ice steering committee and sub-committees are pushing hard for a late-September/early October opening! Here’s what we’ve been working on over the past couple months.

SCHEDULE
We’re now at the point where every milestone is of increasing importance. Current drivers are:

Building permit (City of Oakland)
We are expecting the next round of permit drawings from our architect on June 22. After checking them internally they’ll be submitted to the City of Oakland for design review. The timing on receiving our building permit will depend on the workload of the reviewers and the extent to which they have questions about our design.

Permanent power hook-up (PG&E)
We have received and paid the invoice that starts activity at PG&E to interact with our request for a transformer upgrade to meet the power requirements of our ice equipment.

Water hook-ups (EBMUD)
We require EBMUD cooperation to install our sprinkler system. Our sprinkler system vendor has made preliminary contact with EBMUD and once the new drawing set from the architect is finalized well begin the formal process of moving that work request forward.

Long lead equipment (chiller, piping system)
We are near the end of the BAFO (best and final offer) process. The next step is to negotiate a contract with a preferred vendor and start the 8-12 week period for getting equipment.

FUNDRAISING
We have about $245K remaining in our individual/member giving campaign. This is about $1,100 per adult member. We are making key purchasing decisions NOW, so a donation today makes the biggest impact on the club we end up building.

PROCUREMENT
Ice System Selection
We are deep into the details with two vendors for piping systems, for their best and final offers (BAFO), considering price, performance, and schedule. Once selected, we will need to put down a deposit. The two vendors are a) Everything Ice with a long portfolio of rinks in the US, and b) ISS Systems (Ice Sports & Solar Systems) which was named the official ice technology partner of USA Curling in Jan. 2018, and is looking to enter the US market.

Other Procurement
We will be seeking bids from various firms for installing electrical systems, mechanical systems, windows, etc. when the final permit drawings are available. We have already identified partners to do the hazardous material removal and demo, and the sprinkler system installation.
